A 15th-Century Family Home – Blending Heritage with Modern Comfort
This beautiful 15th-century house in Ickford, Oxford, presented a unique challenge: to carry out substantial upgrades while preserving its historic charm and character. With the family living in the property throughout the works, our team carefully planned and executed every stage to ensure minimal disruption and maximum craftsmanship.
We re-designed and rebuilt the main plumbing riser, integrating it discreetly within the existing structure. Two new chimneys were constructed using hand-selected stones and reclaimed timber to blend seamlessly with the original architecture. The interiors feature new natural stone flooring and handcrafted old-style doors—both internal and external—faithfully replicating traditional details.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the project was the attic conversion, where we created a comfortable new bedroom and a secret room for the children, hidden within the roof structure—a touch of magic within this historic home.
Maintaining the old-fashioned spirit of the property while enhancing its comfort and functionality was at the heart of our approach. The result is a timeless family home where history and modern living coexist beautifully—and a very happy family enjoying it every day.
